Connecting Fans and Festivals

Festival websites that bring crowds to their feet

Plank builds powerful websites for powerhouse festivals

Everyone loves a festival! They bring us together to celebrate, discover, and take a break from reality. But behind the scenes it’s not all fun and games. As a festival organizer, you have to keep a lot of balls in the air – and make sure they land in the right place at the right time.

A festival website isn’t just about publishing schedules and selling tickets. Your website needs to seamlessly integrate with your festival management software, ticketing software and mobile app, and be ready for massive traffic spikes during major announcements and events. We’ve worked with third party integrations like GreenCopper, Zone Festival, Connect & Go, and Outbox, to corral information and deliver an outstanding experience.

We want to help your festival wow the crowd

Our work makes it easier for you to manage schedules, venues, performers, ticketing, and deliver up-to-the-minute information to your audiences. We’ve been doing it for over a decade for some of the biggest festivals and promoters in Canada.

Osheaga

Osheaga is one of the most in-demand shows of the year – which means there’s no time for downtime. The major music festival needed a website to outperform even its biggest headliners. To deal with heavy traffic spikes, we lightened the load on any one server, improving uptime and user satisfaction. We also integrated 3rd party technology to weave together schedules and artist information, account management and ticketing, and RFID wristband technology.

With a unified single login, festival attendees can get artist recommendations, link social accounts and access special deals offered by Osheaga and their partners. Wristbands not only get you into the festival, but connect you to games, social sharing, and special deals from partners. The result is a website that keeps up with fans’ demand for information and interaction at the many stages of the festival life-cycle.

evenko

Our work with Osheaga is a result of our long relationship with evenko – Canada’s top promoter. For nearly a decade, we have helped evenko promote thousands shows and sporting events, and get tickets into fans’ hands faster. We completed a major overhaul of evenko’s site in 2016, improving navigation, geo-location and personalization. We made it easier for fans to find the events they wanted, access pre-sale ticketing events, and transfer tickets to other users – all in an environment optimized for
mobile.

That’s why evenko trusted us with their three blockbuster music festivals; Osheaga, Heavy Montreal, and Île Soniq. While each festival website has their own unique look and feel to appeal to fans with vastly different musical tastes, they all remain the same “under the hood.” All three festivals can rest assured that their audiences will always have access to the information they need, when they need it.

Fantasia

Fantasia is well-known as one of the world’s best genre film festivals and a crown jewel in the Montreal film scene. The festival website serves as the cornerstone of their marketing strategy and the primary tool through which they provide fans with ever-changing, up-to-the-minute festival information. We built them a custom CMS allowing festival staff to add and update the 300+ films shown every year, supporting a cross-publishing platform that also produces an enormous print program.

Our most recent upgrades included making the site fully mobile-responsive, dispensing with the needs for a downloadable app. We also adapted the backend to accommodate the festival’s move to Zone Festival. To ensure the speed and stability of the site, we save a copy of the information synced from Zone Festival to our database, rather than pulling directly from their API.

Culture Days

Over three days each fall, Culture Days promotes community organizations, professional companies and individual artists hosting free activities from coast to coast to coast. Audiences of all ages are given the opportunity to experience visual art, theatre, dance, storytelling and so much more. Plank created a one stop portal for organizers and audiences to come together and share their love for culture.

With event organizers spread across the country, the Culture Days team needed a simple way for artists and organizations to register their activities – regardless of their technical know-how. Plank created a central digital platform with a simple interface backed by accessible event management tools. Registering an event online is painless thanks to clean design that allows organizers to upload content and images into a framework that showcases their event to local audiences.
