For the past 15 years, the Fantasia Film Festival has been delivering audiences top-notch films from a multitude of genres representing virtually every corner of the world where there is someone with a camera and an idea. The festival is an industry destination that attracts attendees from around the world (check out Kevin Smith’s video berating himself for not being able to make it to this year’s event) and Quentin Tarantino calls it “The most important and prestigious genre film festival on this continent” so you know they’re onto something and so do we.
Plank is proud to have been working with the Fantasia Film Festival since 2003 in providing website design services, strategy and client-side content administration tools to ensure that the rabid festival-goers are able to access information in a clear and efficient manner. As in previous years, we work with the fine creative team at EmDash Design who create the festival program, print ads and posters who we give much love to for their organization, lightening fast response time and overall good humour. This year we collaborated with La Boite Numerique who developed an iphone application for the Festival available here.
This year’s festival promises a whopping 130 feature films and a full lineup of special events, awards and spotlights including:
-A lifetime achievement award for John Landis (An American Werewolf in London, Animal House, The Blues Brothers
– among others) – Gabriel Thibaudeau’s live score of “The Phantom of the Opera”
– The Canadian Premiere of Kevin Smith’s acclaimed Sundance hit Red State
– A star-studded live tribute to John Dunning and André Link who for 40 years contributed greatly to the Canadian independent film scene in launching the careers of luminaries such as: David Cronenberg, Ivan Reitman and Denys Arcand.
This year’s awe-inspiring artwork was designed by illustrator Donald Caron who drew his inspiration from the legend of the church of Trois-Pistoles and the dark horse from Quebecois folklore.
The Fantasia Film Festival is truly one of Montreal’s best film, spoken word and performance art festivals and features something for everyone. We’re thrilled to be a part of this year’s event and hope you make it out to show your support.
