  • The Juno Beach Centre Association, together with the Vimy Foundation, needed a site to promote From Vimy to Juno, a travelling exhibit commemorating 100 years since the end of the First World War. The goal of the exhibit is to provide Canadians of all ages the opportunity to learn about Canada’s role in the First and Second World Wars. The site features rare archival imagery and a variety of educational tools that are part of the exhibit that travelled across Canada between 2016 and 2019.

Bridging our shared histories across Canada

Plank was honoured to help develop From Vimy To Juno, a multi-phased web project exploring the depth of Canada’s culture and identity through the lens of those who fought in and survived both World Wars. The bilingual project was developed in support of Canada’s two official languages.

The first phase of this legacy project was dedicated to promoting the exhibition that travelled across Canada from 2016 to 2019 in commemoration of the end of the First World War. The site features a timeline showcasing some of the rare artifacts to be discovered within the exhibition that tell the story of Canada’s military history and legacy. The timeline spans from 1914 to 1945 and describes Canada’s rich archival history told through images, videos, and stories.

    Getting There… and Beyond

The site provides educators and curious historians with detailed information about locations, dates, and schedules to help plan their visits to the exhibition for a more comprehensive learning experience. Support is also provided for those interested in planning an extensive field trip to the Canadian National Vimy Memorial and the Juno Beach Centre in France, as well as the many commemorative sites, museums, and battlefields along the way.

You guys are rock star partners.

An Educational Resource for A New Generation

Detailed lesson plans and resources were developed to assist educators in enriching their students’ understanding of our military history and its impacts, both in and outside of the classroom. Lesson plans are structured along with educational concepts, themes, and grade levels and are easily discoverable through filters.

From Vimy to Juno: Canadians Through Two World Wars

The second phase of the project — funded by Digital Museums Canada — focused on a digital museum to bring an even more comprehensive exploration of Canada’s military legacy and its impacts to all citizens across Canada and the world. Key themes are brought to life as told through history-altering events and moving personal accounts that they can explore from the comfort of their homes.
