As some of you know, we’ve been big fans of the events put on by the Bureau of Digital Affairs. After the presents have been opened, the champagne has been consumed, and the parties have all ended this holiday
season, Warren will be heading down to beautiful Austin, Texas to take part in the first-ever Owner Summit. Warren will be running a workshop on the first day of the event entitled “Learning to Embrace Success.”
What’s this conference all about?
Owner Summit will feature keynote presentations from some of the digital design industry’s most successful and influential boutique agency owners, along with specialized breakout sessions to zero in on niche topics, including:
- Process & technical standards
- Working with remote teams
- Keeping clients on your side
- The war on spec
- The importance of employee feedback
- Following your passion
- Contracts & negotiation
- Having difficult conversations
- Selling the value of design
- Project pricing
- Maintaining a healthy work/life balance
“In 1998, just three years out of university, Warren co-founded Plank with his personal savings and a dream to make the internet a beautiful place. With no formal business or entrepreneurial training, he’s graduated from a real world MBA by turning Plank into one of the most highly respected boutique digital agencies in Canada. His high standards and ability to create and maintain strong client relationships are the foundation of the company’s success. But enough about him – Warren truly believes a company is not an entity unto itself but a reflection of the people who make it special.” Beyond the amazing 15 years experience successfully steering the ship at Plank, Warren has attended four of the previous seven invite-only Ownercamp events.
These bring together some of the brightest minds running digital agencies in North America and beyond. Add this all up and I think it’s safe to say he’s got a solid handle on the complex business we’re in.
You should go
From my perspective — the insights, inspiration, lessons and renewed energy that have been the direct result of these events have set us on course for the next decade. Their value really can’t be measured.
