A close friend was diagnosed with and survived breast cancer this past year. She was young and had no history of breast cancer in her family. Cancer is scary.
Since my friend kicked cancer’s butt, a few other friends and I thought the least we could do is kick our own butts in a 5K run!
This weekend, we participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure in Montreal and raised over $1,600.
On Sunday, Parc Maisonneuve was a sea of people in white t-shirts and pink ribbons. We ran alongside breast cancer survivors, friends and family, husbands and children, and people who were running for friends who had lost their battle with breast cancer. It’s amazing to realize that everyone at this run had been touched by cancer in some way.
Our group crossed the finish line together at 30 min 16 seconds – smiling and proud of ourselves for committing to do this.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month – don’t forget to put on a pink ribbon and support!
